Council updates vaccine pass requirements for facilities

Published: 9 February 2022

Vaccine Pass Required 2

Napier City Council has revised its vaccine pass entry requirements to its public facilities in light of the increasing number of community cases of Covid-19 in Hawke’s Bay.  All council facilities now require a vaccine pass for entry, including the Customer Service Centre in Dunvegan House.

Bay Skate has currently been excluded from this requirement as it is an outdoor facility. Vaccine passes are also not required at this stage for Redclyffe Transfer Station, cemeteries, Council halls, non-public facing Council offices, the offsite museum collection storage facility, and all parks, playgrounds, reserves and public gardens.

Napier City Council Chief Executive Dr Steph Rotarangi says staff and community safety was the main consideration in the changes.

“With case numbers projected to rise and with the potential for new variants to emerge, requiring vaccine passes at most Council facilities is the best way to keep the community and our staff as safe as possible,” says Dr Rotarangi.

“The challenges associated with this pandemic are constantly changing.  We will continue to review our decisions on vaccine passes and other safety measures regularly and make changes to buildings and facilities where and when it is appropriate,” says Dr Rotarangi. “We will continue to explore alternative options for service delivery for those without a My Vaccine Pass where it is practical to do so”.

The changes come into effect from Monday 14 February. McLean Park and Century Theatre will come into effect on Monday 28 February.
