Not for profit sports organisations which use Napier sports grounds or the Rodney Green Centennial Event Centre can now apply to Napier City Council to have their usual fees waived or reimbursed.

At its meeting earlier this week Napier City Council resolved to change the criteria for charges for the 2020/21 summer sports period, which runs from this month through to March, and approve remission of charges for the 2020 winter sports period, covering April.to August this year.

The remissions will be funded from any unused portion of the Rental Relief and Rates Relief Funds, and can be regarded as an extension of those relief packages approved earlier this year.

“We’ve been approached by various sports groups recently. They have experienced a drop in revenue due to the COVID-19 restrictions, and we wanted to acknowledge the fact that they too have suffered in the fallout from the pandemic,” says Councillor Graeme Taylor.

Specific criteria for remission have been approved. These are:

  • that remission will only by given to non-professional not for profit sports organisations
  • that it applies to seasonal hire for open grounds and the Rodney Green Centennial Events Centre
  • that one off open ground sports games in general will be excluded, however, remissions may be considered on a case by case basis
  • representative games and tournaments will be excluded.

McLean Park charges will be excluded, however, remissions may be considered on a case by case basis.

Council does not currently charge for booked practice sessions for any age group, or for  junior sport (up to and including Year 8) so the remission criteria applies only to senior sport.
