Breakwater Road - Road Closure

Breakwater Road SH50

On Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd August, a section of State Highway 50 in Napier will be closed to allow dangerous rocks to be removed from the Bluff Hill cliff face. The road and neighbouring pedestrian and cyclist pathway will be closed from 6am Saturday to 10pm on Sunday from the end of Marine Parade at Coote Road, along State Highway 50 past Napier Port, to the Port entry on Breakwater Road.

  • Full road closure of SH50 Breakwater Road between Coote Road and Battery Road.
  • Local detours will be in place for heavy vehicles and light vehicles and VMS boards will be in place.
  • Heavy Vehicles requiring access to the Eastern Port Gate at the end of the Marine Parade will have controlled access on the Coote Road side of the closure. 
  • There will be no access to pathways from the end of Marine Parade at Coote Road, along SH50 past Napier Port, to the Port entry at Breakwater Road for pedestrians and cyclists. For alternative walking routes and

  • Details for residents’ and business access will be advised by mail.  Residents will be allowed access, but it may be delayed at times.
