Love Your Neighbourhood winners announced

Congratulations to Napier City Council’s annual Love Your Neighbourhood competition winners.

The competition is an opportunity for formal and informal neighbourhood groups, interest groups, and clubs to come together to celebrate their unique identity, encourage new connections, enhance their neighbourhood’s environment or respond to a particular need. This could range from organising street barbeques, working bees or setting up a book exchange, to more elaborate projects like art installations or a waterway clean-up. 

A judging panel of Council staff and various community representatives judged all entries and selected the winning projects, which are funded by Napier City Council. A total of $8,000 has been allocated to five winners.

This year’s winning projects are:

Dani Edgar - $1,875

Community Sharebox and Mural in Veronica Ave, Marewa

Dani and her neighbours want to build and install a share box and a mural at the end of their street to share goods and conversations and to improve the tired looking fence at the end of their street.

Justin Rae - $300

Creek clean-up day – Puketapu Road

Justin wanted Council to install some bins along the creeks to encourage people to pick up litter. The panel instead decided to support him for a creek clean-up day.

Ro Harland-Baker - $3325

Napier Hill Water storage

Ro and her neighbours want to install water tanks on Napier Hill so that in the event of a tsunami, there is enough water for everyone who evacuates to Napier Hill.

Rochelle Buglass – $1500

Being Their Village working bee

Rochelle started Being Their Village in her garage, where she collects clothes and donated items, washes them and gives them away to people in need. Rochelle wants to organise a working bee at a local laundromat to help catch up on her big back-log of donated clothing and enlist some volunteers to help out.

Sandra Rolls – $1000

Little Library – Ascot Avenue

Sandra wants to paint a mural on an old fridge and install it in the reserve on Ascot Avenue, to be used as a little library for her neighbourhood.
