Dog owners are warned to keep their pets away from Anderson Park waterways and all other waterways in the city until further notice.

There have been reports of two dogs becoming ill after swimming at Anderson Park.

Napier City Council asks that dog owners contact a vet immediately if their dogs show the following symptoms after drinking from, swimming or paddling in any of the city’s waterways:

  • Vomiting/being sick
  • Diarrhoea
  • Seizures/fitting
  • Weakness/collapse/unconsciousness
  • Disorientation/confusion, drooling
  • Breathing difficulties

As a precaution it is also recommended that people avoid contact with the water.

We are currently taking test samples and will provide a further update when we know more.
