Napier City Council advises the cost of building consents will rise from Monday (August 22, 2014).
“For years we’ve kept our costs lower than most, but due to recent changes in requirements, we need to make an adjustment,” Acting Planning Manager Mike Webster said.
The hourly rate and inspection fee will rise from $120 to $135 and this will have an effect on the overall cost of a building consent.
“This actually brings us in line with most other councils. Obviously decisions around price rises are never taken lightly, however new requirements have seen our staffing costs increase and we had no other option.”
Mr Webster said the Council’s building consents team had been working hard to meet accreditation requirements.
“We’ve hired new staff and reorganised the existing team to meet those requirements.”
Unfortunately the changes had resulted in delays for some consents.
“We’re aware that there’s a backlog currently, and our staff are working tirelessly to get through them as quickly as possible. We appreciate this can be frustrating and we hope the public understand that we are working to get back on track as soon as we can.”
