Fun for the whole whānau

 Keep children safe at home, outside and on journeys – that’s the theme of the Whānau Fun Fest 2019, in Napier between 11am and 2pm on Saturday 21 September.

It’s an important message best heard in the context of fun.

The Kings House Church at 190 Riverbend Road hosts this year’s Whānau Fun Fest, offering a range of activities which are fun for all ages.

The Safer Napier-organised event offers face painting, bouncy castle action, free popcorn, the Party Train Express, the Radical Rush Obstacle Course and much, much more.

On site will be various information stalls, among them Civil Defence, reminding people of the importance of being prepared for emergencies, Plunket, running an interactive activity about driveway safety, Te Taiwhenua o Heretaunga encouraging sleep safe awareness, and the Police showcasing their new mobile base.

The Safety Whare will also be at the event, in Napier for the very first time.

Whānau can explore the interactive pop up, learning how to make each room in your house safer for tamariki. The interactive whare, brought to us by Safekids Aotearoa, is split into different rooms highlighting the most common hazards and how to prevent them.

Nearly half of all childhood injuries take place in the home, closely followed by sports grounds, roads and driveways. “We encourage everyone to come along to this fun, family event to learn more about how to minimise these injuries and keep our tamariki safe,” says Manager Community Strategies Natasha Mackie.

Safer Napier is a collaboration of more than 40 agencies, organisations and community groups working together to improve safety in our computer. It is an umbrella organisation for safety initiatives and projects.

The Whānau Fun Fest is supported by all partner organisations, King’s House Church, and Pukemokimoki Marae.
