The Soundshell is the place to be next Saturday 18 May as Napier celebrates its many multi-cultural communities in style.

Celebrating Cultural DiverCity, which will run from 11am to 3pm, features food stalls, singing and dancing performances and kids’ activities – entertainment for the whole family.

Countries and continents represented include the Czech Republic, Thailand, China, India,  Africa, Indonesia, Scotland, South America and Sri Lanka.

Organisations such as Plunket, Fire and Emergency NZ, Neighbourhood Support, the Electoral Commission, and Citizens Advice Bureau Napier will also have stalls set up featuring useful information and will be handing out a few goodies.

Celebrating Cultural DiverCity has been organised by a sub-group of the Hawke’s Bay Settlement Forum. The Forum comprises 12 agencies, including Napier City Council, with the goal of working together to strengthen, support and collaborate on matters relating to international newcomers in the region.

For many years, the Council has celebrated diversity. Following the success of last year’s DiverCity event the Forum wants to see it as an annual event for the region, says Rizwaana Latif, Forum Chair, adding that the migrant community of Napier values this support.

If wet, this event will be postponed to Saturday 25 May. See the Napier City Council Facebook event page for updates.
