Every six years we need to review the Council’s make-up.
Should we have ward councillors, at large councillors or a mix of both – and how many councillors should we have?
Currently we have 12 councillors and a mixed system, comprising six at large councillors elected by the entire city, and six ward councillors, elected by residents in four wards. We want to know if you feel well represented on Council, and if it could be any different. We are running a survey to find out what you think – please click the following link to take part:

Who decides what changes will be made?
The results of the survey will be presented to Council and will help inform the development of an option to go through a formal consultation process early next year.
When will any changes happen?
Following consultation, Council will decide what, if any changes will be made to Napier’s system of representation. The Local Government Commission will then confirm the decision, which will take effect from the election in 2019.
