Napier City Council successfully won the bid to host the Elite Road Cycling National Championships for a three year period, starting 2016.
The prestigious event is incorporated in the Hawke's Bay Summer Cycling Carnival, which is a 10-day long celebration of cycling combining elite and fun cycling events.
With over 10 events from professional road cycling, dress your bike competition, fun rides, kids rides and hard core challenges - it's cycling all the way!
Hawke’s Bay has more than 200kms of on-road and off-road trails, a Pump Track, Junior Cycling Track, world class road rides and more restaurants, bars, wineries and places to stay than you can think of.
The Summer Cycling Carnival has something for everyone to get involved in whether a spectator, participant, child, family or couple.
Spectators can watch the fast cycling action of the Big Save Elite Road National Championships from a range of points, including the Marine Parade (where the start and finish line is), the Botanical gardens and the King of the Mountain section on Puketiriti Road.
For those keen to participate there’s a large range of events. For the more serious cyclist, there’s the Traffic Design Group Flying Lap and the Tinelli Gran Fondo Ride to name a couple.
The Black Barn Criterium will bring Marine Parade alive with high speed action as riders tackle the 1.1km circuit – this is a great event for spectators to watch. Families can ride the track for a bit of fun before this event kicks off with The iWay Family Fun Ride.
