We are working on a cost-effective and innovative solution to wastewater pipe issues in Wycliffe Street, Onekawa. Rather than digging an open trench and replacing the wastewater pipe as we would with traditional construction, we are threading a new PVC pipe inside the old concrete one. The new pipe is a spiral wound PVC that will line the existing concrete pipe. It’s a bit like a corkscrew and is wound into the pipe.
The timing of this project means we can piggy-back on work taking place in Hastings by the same specialist team of installers. This is a more efficient approach than creating an isolated project. We have used this product and the team who will install it before in Napier with positive results.
This project will entail laying 500 metres of structural pipe-line. Works will take about 10 days depending on weather. There will be limited impact on households, with some minor truck movement in the area during the works. The wastewater network will operate as normal throughout the project.
