A major $5 million upgrade to the Taradale stormwater system commenced in August 2015 and was completed the following year. The new system should alleviate flooding issues in the area.

Napier City Council embarked on a major upgrade of the Taradale stormwater system in August 2015.
The $5 million project included the installation of a concrete box culvert and a large diameter pipeline to alleviate flooding issues the Taradale and Greenmeadows areas have suffered from in the past, as well as to satisfy the current stormwater design standards.
The first stage of construction saw the installation of 220m of concrete box culvert in the reserve area alongside Perry Crescent.
More than 950 metres of large diameter stormwater pipe, as well as over 300 metres of sewer pipelines were laid from Spriggs Crescent through to Gloucester Street.
New sewer and stormwater infrastructure has also been installed in Osier Road, from the Guppy Road intersection towards the Gloucester Street intersection.
The upgrade has long been a part of Napier City Council’s infrastructure plans. Money has been set aside annually since 1995 to build up a financial reserve to fund this work.
