We have purchased three hectares of land on Matāruahou (Napier Hill) for the site of a new drinking water supply reservoir, to replace the Enfield Road reservoir. This project provides an opportunity for co-design with local mana whenua and to build the infrastructure in such a way so the site is accessible to the community, as well as to tell the story of Matāruahou, given it is a significant and historic site.
The purchase of the land is the first of a series of steps to be taken. Preliminary work will start in the next Long Term Plan period to develop the design for the reservoir site. It will take up to five years to complete.
Ngā hapū and Hill residents will be part of any future consultation as the project progresses.
