Taradale Road Wastewater Pump Station

Completed Taradale Road pump station in March 2013.Planning Started: 2010
Construction Started: 2011
Completed: May 2013

The Taradale Road pump station is in the drainage reserve opposite New Zealand Post's depot, in Onekawa.

With the capacity to pump 650 litres of wastewater per second, the pump station delivers wastewater from the Napier urban area to the treatment plant at Awatoto via a 6.5km sewer main.

The sewer main provides capacity for new development areas that have gone ahead or are planned in the northwest and southeast of the city. These areas include Park Island, Oaklands, Parklands and the Mission development area; Te Awa Estate and the rest of the Serpentine area, and the Pirimai South future development area. It also provides for future infill development.

The Council anticipated the need for the pump station in 2000 and work on the project started in 2011. It was completed in February 2013. It was part of a $6.5-million project which included the construction of a new sewer main all the way to Awatoto.
