A magical new lighting arrangement has made Clive Square a more beautiful - and safer - place to stroll through at night.
Planning started: July 2014
Construction Started: October 2014
Completed: May 2016
A spectacular light show and security system lighting have been installed at Clive and Memorial Squares, lighting the large palms, entrance ways and trees surrounding the square. Sensors detect movement, triggering extra security lighting while providing lower power consumption.
In addition, equipment has been installed to allow projection art onto the RSA cenotaph in Memorial Square. The cenotaph can be highlighted with old photographs of returned service people with brief descriptions of their contribution.
The purpose of the lighting project was to reinvigorate Emerson Street West and draw visitors to this area of the Napier city centre.
Attracting people to the site provides natural surveillance and security. The National Guidelines for Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED) promotes this concept as a major factor in reducing crime and building safer communities.
