Following an investigation in early 2018, the Council discovered that the Centennial Garden Ponds was leaking water, to ensure water was not being wasted Council established a project to waterproof both the upper and lower ponds as a water conservation effort.
The Centennial Garden was established in 1974, with water being a significant landscaping feature, the gardens have a lower and upper pond with water pumped to the upper pond and then to the top of the cliff where it cascades down the 40-metre rock face.
Following an investigation in early 2018, Council discovered that the Centennial Garden Ponds was leaking water, to ensure water was not being wasted Council established a project to waterproof both the upper and lower ponds as a water conservation effort.
Draining the upper and lower ponds provided Council with an opportunity, to not only install a waterproof membrane but also carry out repairs to the pedestrian bridge support posts and add improvements/ resilience to existing pipework to improve garden operations.
Once Council had identified the full scope, the project team aimed to have the upgrade works complete and the Centennial Gardens open for the Christmas and New Year break. The Council were pleased to reopen the Centennial Garden at noon on 24th December 2019.
