A 5.5-kilometre pipeline from the new bore at Awatoto allows water up to 400 litres of water per second to be pumped into town.
Planning started: July 2011
Construction Started: February 2016
Completed: June 2017
The Awatoto Trunk Main is the largest water main the Napier City Council has ever constructed.
The pipeline connects to a new bore at Awatoto and involves laying 4.9km of 550mm diameter concrete lined steel water pipe from Eriksen Road to Hyderabad Road, which will connect Awatoto to the reservoirs in town. This will provide capacity for up to 400 litres of water per second to be pumped into town, and will also provide for future demand from urban growth in the south-east of Napier.
The first and second stages of construction have been completed from Awatoto Road to Latham Street. A new section called the “A2 Pipeline” has also been added to the project involving laying 450m of the same 550mm diameter pipe from the intersection of McLeod and Awatoto Road to potential well sites further up Awatoto Road.
Work is expected to begin on the final stage from Latham Street to Hyderabad Rd in February 2017 with final completion projected for mid 2017.
