Ahuriri Discharge Wharf

The Discharge Wharf Renewal Project aims to address structural, safety, and environmental issues through comprehensive reconstruction and risk management.

We are upgrading the Ahuriri discharge wharf, which was built in the 1970s and has a 50-year design life. Parts of the structure have degraded and will be demolished this year, with safety as the top priority. A new wharf will be built, and the project is expected to take 18 months.

For safety reasons, the wharf is completely off-limits. Alternative access has been arranged for those who need it. We are committed to keeping the site secure throughout the project.

We are also taking steps to protect local wildlife, including the kororā (Little Penguins) along the shore. Their habitat is important to us. Thank you for your understanding and support.

The Discharge Wharf Renewal Project is progressing steadily, addressing critical structural issues related to safety, operational continuity, and environmental safeguards. The project involves the removal of compromised sections, reconstruction with robust piles and decking, and implementing environmental protections for local marine habitats.
