In honoured memory of all those from Hawke's Bay who served in the Great War 1914-1918. Their name liveth for evermore.
VE Day, 9 May 1995 The 50th Anniversary of the end of World War II in Europe 1939-1945.
In tribute to those who served and in memory of those who gave their lives.
The memorial was unveiled on 14 June 1924 by Mr R D MacLean. It was damaged by the 1931 earthquake and restored to its present position in Hastings Street.
