“Placemaking Napier” is back! This year we are searching for ideas to make our streets and public places more playful. If you have an idea, we want to hear from you!
“Streets are our most fundamental shared public spaces.”
People-oriented streets have been proven to deliver better social and economic results. Napier is well-known as a people-friendly city, but we can do better. We’d like to hear about your ideas on how to make our streets more interesting, fun and playful. Your ideas could make a real difference by bringing joy in your city.
If your proposal is selected, you will become the project manager in charge of delivery, including:
We will provide the funding (as outlined below) and assistance with getting Council permission and other process. We will also promote your project on various media platforms that Council subscribes to.
Please note, we may require changes to your proposal to ensure a safe and successful project outcome and to meet the relevant regulations (alter design, location and delivering timeframe etc).
A maximum of $7,500 exclusive GST can be applied for to deliver your project. Your proposal must provide a detailed breakdown of costs associated with your proposals delivery. All cost associated with the project shall be covered by this funding, including

1.1. Fun and playful. Allows local residents and visitors to interact with, encouraging random social interactive and connection
1.2. Enhancing and/or offer a new use of existing public spaces, creating a destination for local residents and visitors
1.3. Attractive. Be able to bring people into the project area and increase their time-spent
1.4. Outstanding visual outcome. Creating photo-taking opportunity for local residents and visitors.
1.5. Promoting Napier as a vibrant and exciting city
2.1. Addressing community or social need
2.2. Enhancing collaboration and partnerships for ongoing community-led placemaking initiatives
2.3. Stimulating the visitor economy
2.4. Encouraging the evening and night time economy
2.5. Building community capacity for activating public realm and creating an inclusive sense of place
2.6. Supporting a healthy and active lifestyle, promoting the use of active transport
2.7. Innovation. The involvement of smart and modern technology

3.3. The applicant’s capacity to progress the proposal after being selected and to then deliver the project before 29 February 2020
