Look out for your neighbour

Every one of us can make a difference. Keep an eye out for your neighbours and give them a helping hand when you can.

Looking out for each other is just part of being a good neighbour and for our older neighbours living alone this is even more important. ‘Look out for your neighbour’ is a Safer Napier campaign launched in 2019 that encourages people to reach out and connect with their neighbours.

Below are some quick tips on how to stay in touch:

  • Stop and say hello
  • Take time to have a chat
  • Ask if they need help with anything, perhaps a hand with the groceries or bringing the bins in
  • Swap phone numbers
  • Check on them in emergencies
  • Check in if they don’t open curtains, turn on lights or clear the mailbox.
