Water restrictions in Napier and Hastings (excluding Waimārama) have been dropped to Level 2, following a fall in water use over the last two weeks alongside rainfall of approximately 60mm.
In Hastings, water use from the main urban network had dropped by about seven per cent over the last two weeks to an average 45,700 litres per day. In Napier, water use is sitting at an average 27,000 litres per day.
The drop in water use was likely a result of cooler, damper weather reducing the need for garden watering.
Level 2 restrictions for properties in Napier and Hastings (excluding Waimārama) connected to the councils’ main urban and small community allows residents to use sprinklers and hoses for garden watering between 6am-8am and/or 7pm-9pm on alternate days: even-numbered properties on even dates and odd-numbered properties on odd dates.
Level 3 water restrictions remain in place in Waimārama, due to the increased population and therefore water use over the summer. At Level 3, sprinklers are banned with hand-held hoses only allowed to be used between 6am and 8am and/or 7pm and 9pm, on alternate days: even-numbered properties on even dates and odd-numbered properties on odd dates.
