Media ReleaseRedclyffe Transfer Station Barrier

Napier City Council installed an additional protective barrier at the station during July 2014 in response to an incident where a user fell into the pit after removing rubbish from her vehicle.

“We took the incident very seriously,” said Napier City Council Services Manager Lance Titter.

After a thorough investigation, it was decided a second barrier should be installed at 1.2 metres in addition to the barrier currently 30cm off ground level.

“Council staff have since spoken to the woman involved in the incident and she’s very happy to hear these new safety measures have been put in place.”

Mr Titter said staff would be on hand at the transfer station to advise users of the changes and assist with any questions.
