Napier's young people
Napier city offers a range of activities and opportunities for young people. Napier City Council encourages youth development in several ways including providing recreational facilities, leadership development, programmes, events and activities.
Developed with young people in 2010, the policy focuses on six key themes:
Ensuring there are opportunities and the right environment for young people to be the best they can be.
Encouraging youth in Napier to participate in their community.
Providing an environment where young people feel valued, listened to and respected regardless of their different characteristics.
Making sure young people have access to resources and information so they can make decisions.
Having a safe city to grow, learn, get around, work and have fun in.
Promoting positive connections for young people with their families, friends, schools, workplaces and the community.
This policy is due for renewal in 2015.
Youth Centre Pop-ups
Napier City Council supports several Youth Centre Pop-ups during the year. For a few days at a time, in a Napier suburb, a shipping container is transformed into anything from a youth centre, a music studio, skating base, to a computer hub and everything in between. The pop-ups are facilitated by Zeal on our behalf, who employ local young people to run the project.
