Joint Solid Waste Management Plan

Joint Solid Waste Management Plan 2012 - 2018
This Joint Solid Waste Management Plan has been developed by both Napier City Council and Hastings District Council in order to be consistent with the latest legislative requirements. As the Councils share some waste management services, this Solid Waste Management Plan has been undertaken as a joint effort. The contents of this Plan generally cover the practices of both Councils, but also separately address some issues or practices unique to one or the other Council.

The Napier Safer Community Council's Annual Business Plan for 2001/2002 year identified violence and anti-social behaviour as a priority community crime problem. The Napier Inner City Security Plan was developed and adopted by, Napier City Council in December 2001.

This document indicates the focus for the Napier City Council's work over three years. The approach to be taken was developed at a special two-day planning meeting of Councillors and senior staff, held shortly after the 2001 local authority elections. It reflects the Council's desire to see Napier take better advantage of its unique assets and strengths.

The plan deals with all reserves on an equal footing, objectives and policies are divided into two sections - one General for all Reserves and an overall set for each Group of Reserves with Common Characteristics eg Sportsgrounds, Public Gardens. The problem is that Maraenui continues to suffer in its social, cultural, educational, and economical development. As a result the Maraenui Urban Renewal Plan was developed.
