In March this year, the annualised rate of unemployment in Napier City was recorded at 8.3%, compared to 8% for the whole Hawkes Bay-Gisborne region and 6.8% nationally. At the same time, total unemployment in the City stood at 2,475. The number of people receiving the unemployment benefit in the Napier City area stood at 570, compared to 634 a year previously, that is, a fall of 10.1%. The total number of working-age income tested beneficiaries in the City stood at 5,315 in March 2013, compared to 5,275 a year earlier.
