Napierís population currently stands at an estimated
57,700 and has risen by 900 or 1.6% since the 2006
Census year (and by 500 or 0.9% over the last year).
The total City population gain since 2006 compares to
4.4% nationally. Over the past year, Napier has
recorded a natural population gain of 392 and total net
migration gain of 108.
The total net migration gain has
comprised an external/ overseas net migration loss of
-16 and an internal net migration gain of 124. Over the
year, a total of 715 people arrived in Napier from
overseas for permanent or long-term residence.
Meanwhile, the overseas departures total for the City
for the period was 731.
