Settlement Support New Zealand is a nationwide initiative with 19 locations around New Zealand.
It is for new settlers coming to live in New Zealand. People can contact the local coordinator and access our website for local information before and when they arrive in New Zealand. Your local Settlement Support office can assist you in accessing information and services to assist you in settling in to the Hawke's Bay.
The local coordinator is also responsible for bringing together agencies to resolve localised gaps in services at a quarterly forum and with regular meetings with the Settlement Steering Group. The Steering Group is made up of representatives from:
Hawke's Bay and New Zealand DiversityThe Hawke's Bay is a culturally rich region with more than 12% of the population identifying as overseas born. Representing more than 64 ethnicities and diverse religious beliefs.
In New Zealand our five largest ethnic groups are NZ Europeans, English, Dutch, British and Australia. Our seven largest Asia groups are Chinese, Indian, Korean, Filipino, Japanese, Sri Lankan and Cambodian. Pacific peoples contribute to this diversity and are represented in the seven largest Pacific Island peoples as Samoan, Cook Island Maori, Tongan, Niuean, Fijian, Tokelauan and Tuvaluan.
A total of 17.5% of our nation speaks more than one language.
