General InformationNapier's sportsgrounds cater for a wide range of recreational and sporting activities.
Major sports facilities include the McLean Park complex, which encompasses an outdoor sportsground of international standard and the Rodney Green Centennial Event Centre (formerly known as the Centennial Hall).
Nearby, Nelson Park caters for cricket, tennis and petanque. Park Island's grounds provide facilities for many outdoor codes, while Tareha Recreational Reserve has been more recently developed to meet the growing sporting needs of the Taradale area.
Bookings are essential for all sportsgrounds and facilities managed by the Napier City Council.
Council liaises with and assists the community on recreational and sporting issues. Aiming to attract visitors to the city, it actively promotes and markets Napier regionally, nationally and internationally as a sporting destination.
CancellationsIf weather conditions are extremely bad, it may be necessary for the Napier City Council to close the grounds for play. These decisions are made in consultation with the sports codes.
Napier City Council asks that at the start of each season, one representative from each code is nominated as a Council contact. Napier City Council will contact this person if weather threatens closure of a sportsground/s. This person is responsible for notifying their members and the media of any closure or transfer of grounds.
