General InformationNapier prides itself with the clean image the City presents. Council provides a domestic refuse collection service of domestic material for both residential and commercial properties.
Litter bins and drums are placed throughout the City and emptied on a daily basis. A kerbside recycling service for residential properties is provided via contractors.
Council's Joint Waste Management and Minimisation Plan (2012-2018) provides an insight into solid waste management in H.B. A major objective in the plan is to increase the diversion of material from the Landfill.The Redclyffe Transfer Station, commissioned in November 1989, operates as a separate Business Unit reporting to Council. The Omarunui Landfill is jointly owned by Napier City Council (36%) and Hastings District Council (64%). The day to day management and operating is the responsibility of the Hastings District Council and financial projects are included within their Annual Plan.
Recycling CollectionCouncil has a contract for kerbside recycling from residential properties with Green Sky Waste Solutions.
Please separate materials into plastic, paper, cardboard, jars, glass bottles, tin, and aluminium cans. Recycling must be secured in plastic bags or a cardboard box, and placed on the kerbside by 6.30am on your collection day.
Rubbish CollectionDomestic Collection
A maximum of two bags per household will be collected from outside the property once a week. Bags may be plastic or paper and no more than 60 litres in volume and 10 kg in weight. The collection is for domestic refuse only (no garden refuse etc.). Bags need to be put out by 6:30am on the day of collection or can be put out the night before.
Residents must ensure any sharp objects and specifically broken glass or china is wrapped to prevent injury to refuse collection staff.
Commercial Collection
Commercial premises can have two bundles of flattened cartons in addition to the two bags of the domestic collection.
