Current Status
Napier South Civil Defence Centre Sign.If there is an emergency, tune in to your local radio station to find out which Civil Defence centres are open.
Not all centres will be open at one time as large numbers of staff are required to operate them. In a large-scale event, some centres may be set up as information points or locations to collect and transport people to one large welfare centre.
This large centre would be staffed by all the agencies required to support our community - Civil Defence and Emergency Management volunteers, Salvation Army, Red Cross, Ministry of Social Development (MSD), animal welfare organisations, insurance companies, Hawke's Bay District Health Board, etc.
So it's most important always that you listen to your local radio station to see which Civil Defence centres have been activated.
