Council Rental & Retirement Housing
The Council aims to provide well maintained flats and Villages in a secure and pleasant environment,
with a emphasis on the welfare of the tenants.
There are 373 flats situated in 12 Villages through out the city and suburbs.
9 Retirement Villages and 3 general Rental Villages of Napier.
Flats are available for people who meet Council's criteria, based
on housing needs and income.

How to Apply
Two ways of Applying:
- Phone (06) 835 7579 or (06) 834 4137 and ask for an application form to be posted to you.
- Or alternatively application forms are available at the reception desk on the main entrance to the
Napier City Council Corner Hastings and Station Street Napier.
Once you have completed the application form, please make an appointment for an interview by phoning (06) 835 7579
or (06) 834 4137.
Your application will be processed and if you qualify, you will be placed on the waiting list. Should you, at any time,
change your address or phone number, please advise us so that your records can be updated. Every 6 months applicants
are contacted to see if they wish to remain on the waiting list. If no reply is received, the application is
cancelled and then the form destroyed.
Please note our accommodation is subsidised and it is for people with low assets and a low income.
You can help us process your application efficiently by providing the following.
- Completed Tenancy Application form with statutory declaration
Please complete the questions in the application form and ensure that the declaration at the back of the form has been
signed by you in front of a justice of the Peace or Deputy Registrar of the Court, or other Officer authorised to take statutory
declarations
- Identification
Please provide some photo identification, such as your passport or drivers license.
- References
Please provide two referees who are not family members. Include telephone numbers to contact your referee.
- Income and Assets
Please provide statement of weekly or fortnightly earnings such as current salary/wage slip or Statement of Annual Income.
Also required is confirmation of assets, such as bank statements, rate payments, Family Trust documents, property settlement account.
Once you have completed the application form and collated the supporting information, please make an appointment
for an interview at the 1st floor reception desk or by phoning (06) 835 7579 or the Housing Manager (06) 834 4137
